Festival Diaries: SMS'd to you from BBC staff throughout the weekend
Here we go... from 11.25pm
Ollie Williams, online journalist and photographer
In the pit as festival opening act Mr Fogg soundcheck and their bass drum is tearing my hair apart. Around 200 people at the Carling Stage here waiting. Here we go...
Ollie still, a little later...
Welcome to Reading - normal festival rules apply. Openers Mr Fogg are now 30 mins late but we *have* just had a consolatory blast of dry ice.
Ollie still, a little later...
God help the litter pickers - 3 acts in and already the place is a mess. Dashboard Confessional sounding good on main stage but i've seen more animated crowds.
Ollie Williams, online journalist and photographer
Everyone at the front of the Radio 1 stage is manic. I'm supposed to be taking photos but spending more time throwing beach balls back into the crowd...
Ollie Williams, online journalist and photographer
Our chief Guillemot, atop armchair playing keyboard with pink racing stripes, looks perturbed during soundcheck. It's a beautiful set design they've got tho.
Ollie Williams, online journalist and photographer
Panic! At The Disco have broken out the Radiohead covers. 'Karma Police' is emanating from the main stage. Rumour has it there's been some bottling afoot...
Ollie Williams, online journalist and photographer
Someone's dropped an entire crate of beer backstage and people are helping themselves. Could be some pretty drunk sets tonight.
Ollie Williams, online journalist and photographer
Back at the Radio 1 stage they're devouring bbc stickers like a pack of sharks. Such enthusiasm! We love it. Mystery Jets next.
Linda Serck, online journalist and producer
Have just been approached by some one who thought i was zoe ball and said how much they loved The Priory.
Linda Serck, online journalist and producer
Just taken a photo of somebody who's here dressed as Scooby Doo.
Ollie Williams, online journalist and photographer
Bit of a thin crowd for Secret Machines - too much smoke on stage? It's like watching them in fog at times!
Ollie Williams, online journalist and photographer
There's a huge queue for signings. Some people must be missing hours of music waiting here. Worth it? Doubt it - Yeah Yeah Yeahs are looking very colourful on main stage.
Ollie Williams, online journalist and photographer
I know how Layla in Leeds feels. I'm in wellies and you really, really don't need them. I demand mud! Kaisers on stage, no new tunes yet, thumping noise though.
Ollie Williams, online journalist and photographer
You know i prayed for mud? Well the heavens have just ABSOLUTELY opened ...
Linda Serck, online journalist and producer
It started raining at half eight but thankfully it's now stopped!
Linda Serck, online journalist and producer
Josh Homme has just been told he is too loud in the Carling stage with his band Eagles of Death Metal. Oops...
Ollie Williams
It's very dark! And quite cold! But best of all it's getting MUDDY! Franz on main stage soon but i'm off to see Primal Scream.
Linda Serck
Its starting to rain REALLY hard now.
Oliver Williams
The whole radio 1 stage is packed for Primal Scream, even the stage wings and photo pit. Fair to say the weight of expectation is on the band.
Linda Serck
Primal scream just kicked off with my love shines on. And I've just seen two teens skip by dressed in banana costumes.
Oliver Williams
Sorry Primal Scream, i've abandoned you for Franz. Gorgeous set, huge yellow Franz sign glowing to 'Dark of the Matinee'.
