BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2012

5-8pm Sunday 5th February, City Halls, Glasgow, and live on BBC Radio Scotland and broadcast on BBC Alba on Monday 6th February at 9pm.

Winner: Rona Wilkie

The Oban fiddler and vocalist won the competition, despite suffering from a bad throat which prevented her from being able to sing. Here's her winning performance.

Rona Wilkie - Winner Young Trad 2012 - full set

The winning set from fiddle player Rona Wilkie.


Six young musicians compete for the title with a trio of accompanists at their disposal. Each has a 15 minute slot, including introductions. A panel of esteemed experts from the folk world asesses the quality of the playing, and the personality shown in the performance.
