Editors at the Apollo

Editors rock up in Manchester tonight for the second time in what seems a matter of weeks, and they seem at home here with their Joy Division synth and front man Tom Smith's Ian Curtis-esque stage presence.

Tom and his gang waste no time in ripping into an old favourite in 'Camera' from their critically acclaimed first album, The Back Room, before treating us to some gems from their most recent album offering 'An End Has A Start'.

Old favourites like 'Blood' and 'Fingers In the Factories' flow beautifully with new gems like 'Escape The Nest' and 'Spiders'.

It all goes as you’d expect, except for one thing; Tom's loony behaviour. Be it chasing the microphone around the piano like a demented dog or lying horizontally on the floor with his mic stand throughout an entire song, there is something a tad strange about this Brummie lad.

However, it doesn't derail the fact that these boys are very special indeed. They have achieved in two albums what very few bands achieve in a career. They even throw in a cheeky Cure cover and perform an amazing acoustic version of 'Push Your Head Towards The Air'.

But it's the encore that cements their place at the top of the music tree. They came back out to 'Racing Rats', which brings everyone to their feet, and then bowl us over with 'Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors'.

Simply, they were class tonight and can come back as often as they like.
