Don’t Forget To Remember does little to make the answer clear. As always, it is jam-packed with their trademark ginormous sky-scraping indie and every bit as strong as their previous three long players. ![]() Puressence - Don't Forget To Remember Even their weaknesses don’t make you see the light. Yes, there are times when James Mudriczki’s voice doesn’t quite have the strength to carry the sheer giganticness of a tune, but then Liam Gallagher has had plenty of duff performances without a detriment to his band. Whatever the reason for the failure to explode, it thankfully hasn’t affected Puressence’s approach. They could have changed the formula, tried to latch onto trends and ride some zeitgeist; it would never have worked. Don’t Forget To Remember is an album that sticks resolutely to its guns and is all the better for it. With their foot firmly fixed on the pedal marked ‘colossal’, the ten tunes on offer something that many bands never get on an album; consistency. From the opening salvo of Moonbeam to the closing grandeur of Burns Inside, it’s practically impossible to pick a stand-out moment, though it’s worth pointing out that just as they never hit awful, there’s also nothing as great as their older classics This Feeling or Walking Dead. One thing is certain. When they walked out on Island after allegedly being told they needed to sound more like Savage Garden, they made the right decision. They may never be huge, but they will always be true to themselves and the sound of epic indie, and that, in some ways, is worth more than global success. last updated: 26/09/07 You are in: Manchester > Entertainment > Music > Reviews > Puressence – Don't Forget To Remember (Reaction Records) [an error occurred while processing this directive] [an error occurred while processing this directive] |
