In fact, they're a bit like Snowdon - rocky in places but oh so very wet and grey. Don't get me wrong, there's a part of us all that needs this style of music, but the worry is just how it would transfer onto the stage. We're immediately blown away by Just Abuse Me and I'm just tucking into my third portion of words, when the performance somewhat dips. It’s no surprise; so often you see this with bands who only have one album of tracks to go at. But this time it’s something more than that. It could just be cynicism creeping in, but there’s the distinct feeling that these boys love to play ballads and throw in the rockier numbers merely to please record chiefs. One thing is for sure, Air Traffic have a great following and many fans found themselves outside of the venue, due to a slightly odd zero tolerance on crowd surfing. But even the loyal fans can’t cover things up that well. One was overheard muttering that they are like Coldplay but 'better', and while their large following means they’re likely to be much bigger in the future, chances are they'll follow in the footsteps of Athlete and Feeder in finding money over respect. To sum up, these boys show glimpses of class but not enough to truly excite. All in, it’s a simple must do better. last updated: 06/07/07 You are in: Manchester > Entertainment > Music > Reviews > Air Traffic at Club Academy [an error occurred while processing this directive] [an error occurred while processing this directive] [an error occurred while processing this directive] |
