The Liverpool musos have become an undeniable force of creative talent, showing that every song has instant dance floor appeal and is able to sweep its way through the youth filled discos of Britain this summer. Their chosen themes make them one of the weirdest and endearingly wonderful bands to have made it this year. There’s songs about strippers, loving your GP, the loss of a clapped out Rover Metro through a failed MOT and, for added randomness, Scandinavian bassist Tord’s rendition of Postman Pat. In Norwegian. New single, Kill The Director, declares war on disastrous encounters with the female of the species with a simple "if this is a rom-com / kill the director / this is no Bridget Jones". It’s exactly the kind of lyric that makes The Wombats so quintessentially British and ruthlessly infectious, because we understand every heartfelt plea and yet can’t help but laugh along the way. Not convinced? See them on their joint headline tour with The Holloways, who will be left well behind next to the kings of quirk, but be warned; incidents of hairbrush karaoke may follow. last updated: 02/07/07 You are in: Manchester > Entertainment > Music > Reviews > The Wombats at Academy 3 [an error occurred while processing this directive] [an error occurred while processing this directive] [an error occurred while processing this directive] |
