Making their stage debut, the rappers (two male and one female) are supported by a simple bass and drums. ![]() Masbo (pic: Ged Camera) Over a sleazy bass line that could be a hybrid of the Stranglers and Peter Hook, the unit fling out lyrics to an audience that partly cares (their mates) and partly doesn’t (those waiting for the Heroes), and while they’re understandably nervous, they don’t let that get to them, as they nip through their set, beaming from ear to ear at the successfully culmination of each song. ![]() Underground Heroes (pic: Ged Camera) Equally beaming are the Underground Heroes. It’s only the third night of the tour, so they aren’t too worn down by the grind of a long series of gigs, and they bounce on the stage to a now attentive and very youthful crowd. Initially, though, the band have too much energy as both guitarists, Aaron Dollimore and George Penfold, break a string within seconds of striking up the opening chords. ![]() Underground Heroes (pic: Ged Camera) Once re-strung, all three front men, including Jak Miller on bass, run across the stage, interchanging positions and vocals, much to the delight of their followers. A demonstration of this much enthusiasm requires reciprocation and for the rest of the evening, crowd surfing, stage diving and a general throwing of beer is de rigour. It’s all a fast paced, energy laden pop, delivered well and littered with "nah-nahs" in the right spot to allow crowd to sing back at them. The result is that everyone is sent home happy. last updated: 28/06/07 You are in: Manchester > Entertainment > Music > Reviews > Underground Heroes at Club Academy [an error occurred while processing this directive] [an error occurred while processing this directive] [an error occurred while processing this directive] |
