Now, this kind of behaviour might be considered a cool talent if mixed with a unique edge, but here it’s not only irrelevant to modern music, but also makes your mind wander in this sort of direction: "I wish I’d put those free earplugs off the plane in my back pocket for safe keeping." Finally, The Deadbeats arrive on stage to a warm reception. It’s nice to see a band that has the rarity of a more mature fan base. They play a refreshing blend of blues, guitar pop and country, which makes them the most appreciated band of the night. With influences ranging from the Sex Pistols to Nirvana, The Doors to oddly enough, Shampoo, it’s easy to see how The Deadbeats have formed such an eclectic sound. Not only were they the Glastonbury unsigned 2005 winners but they also gained enough admiration from the likes of Jools Holland to be his support act in front of 10,000 people. The new single Hotel, sounds like a northern English Kings Of Leon B-side, and although they do get a bit hillbilly at times, they don’t look too shabby, with only lead singer Sam Hammond’s hat making a nod to country. They are not all-together poster boys but are somewhat sexier than you might expect for the entertainment at your local hoe down. For something different this summer, check them out. |
