Ok, I may be primarily talking about the temperature, but the show from the cute and confident Nash - who fell down the stairs, broke her leg and discovered she could write - certainly turned up the heat a further notch or two. She appeared on stage through a backdrop of dramatic light pink curtains wearing a post box red polka-dot, halter-neck dress that complements her thick red hair and cheeky girlish looks. But that’s where the cuteness of her act ends. The young and excitable crowd lap up the straight talking lyrics of The **** Song and **** Head, sung with the charisma of an artist of much more experience than little Kate. But then with an appearance on Later… under her belt, Night and Day probably seems like a doddle. On she skipped, with the excellent Foundations, a sophisticated pop song about dating yet another loser boyfriend; it’s received with enthusiasm and approval from the crowd, the reaction boding well for its forthcoming release. However, the similarities to Lily Allen in sound and style are uncanny, and it could be Kate’s one downfall. While the majority of the crowd clearly adored her, there was the odd whisper saying she was nothing new. There’s no doubting it that as hot as she was, if she wants a longer career and bigger venues, she’s going to have to find away of jumping out of the shadow of Allen. |
