It's a long night, with three support acts to sit through - retro 3-piece The Draytones seemingly the most impressive - and it's fast approaching the witching hour by the time Palace Fires arrive onto the stage. A characteristically seamless set ensues as the band start the proceedings with Up To Speed, followed closely by Nothing Comes Close - divinely satisfying, and a warm comfort on a cold, wet night. Fear of Falling is nothing if not sumptuous: from the swooning melody line to the haunting essence of the guitar against the pitter-patter of percussion, it all flows together, forming a magical fairy tale-like fusion. This pure music breathes life, charming all with the romanticism within, each song a tonic delivered from the very heart of the band. Burning the midnight oil with their polished, but richly earthy sounds, Palace Fires round off their set of finery with the anthemic Start The Fire, punchy pop at its best, delivered with precision and soul. |
