 | | Bye Bye Johnny |
This band have pure energy and feel for what they do – the kind that makes you want to get off the wall and go crazy for an hour. It reminds me of that feeling that surrounded early Oasis fans when someone had given a voice to youth again and it really did make you want to go out and cause some chaos. But forget your trendy haircuts and stiff coats, there’s no posing or moody shoe gazing at a Bye Bye Johnny gig - you’ve really got to just let yourself go. Their set’s an interesting one, you never really know what’s coming next, but there is one constant which is the underlying punk feel to their music, led by vocalist Danny Boy who really is the perfect front man for their march. They chop and change from up-tempo, pogo-inducing, mod-style riffs and beats to teasing indie intros that hook the crowd ready to whip them up into a manic frenzy. Competing with other local headliners The Children, who were playing upstairs, their following still seemed to have grown significantly. It’s not just the numbers that made the difference though, it’s the fact that everyone there was bang into it. They’re addictive and I genuinely can’t wait for the next instalment because I know they have the potential to surprise, deliver and excite. What more can you ask for? |
