Whilst support act Josh Pyke and the material which he offers from new EP, Feeding The Wolves, isn't at all bad, it's just not very exciting - one tune by the name of Middle Of The Hill gives a sense that the middle of the road is more likely to be where Pyke ends up. With Ben Kweller however, no such aspersions can be cast. From the lo-fi fuzz of Penny On The Train to the stark tenderness of On My Way via mass singalongs like Wasted And Ready, Kweller leaps, runs and grins around the stage with abandon so joyful, he could give Chris Martin a good run for his money. | | Ben Kweller |
In all honesty - quite apart from the gifted songwriter that he obviously is - it's the way Ben Kweller performs that makes his show so special. He's youthful, contagious, innocent, and most importantly, you can tell that he's a rock star who actually enjoys being a rock star. In 2006, that alone is something worth seeing. |
