Crash My Model Car

Driving ambition

Crash My Model Car passed through during this year’s In The City and they’re back soon to celebrate the release of their single on Manc label, My Dad. Front man Iain Morrison told us more about their sound, that name and their naked bass player.

Crash My Model Car... where does the name come from?

CMMC live

  • Crash My Model Car play Jabez Clegg on Thurs 7 Dec
  • The debut single, Maybe, is out on Mon 4 Dec

"One day, while sitting daydreaming, the words just fell into my head. There is no great background story. I just really liked the play on words."

Your debut single is out soon. Are you nervous?

"I do feel a bit nervous, to be honest. Music is our whole lives so you are always going to be apprehensive about how well it goes down and we've put so much work into it."

Apparently, you’ve got no way to play the vinyl. How many do you need to sell to buy yourself a record player?

"It seems to be really vibrant and if you have a good old pair of shoes, you can get round to hear so many bands."
Iain on the In The City experience

"I'm not sure how many exactly, quite a few I would say. I like the big old expensive looking gramophone types so we'll have to shift a few more for one of those..."

Maybe got single of the week on XFM Scotland. Do you think that's a taste of things to come for CMMC?

"I really hope so. It was a confidence boost for us and it's great to get that support."

You played here during In The City. What did you make of the music conference?

"It's a really great thing. It seems to be really vibrant and if you have a good old pair of shoes, you can get round to hear so many bands. Cool stuff..."

You're back again in support of the single. What can we expect from the show?

"We always just put a hundred and ten percent into our shows and we're all just so excited about getting the music out there, playing live is one of the best parts of this job. Being able to connect with a room of people you don't know is a cool thing.

"Also, if things are going well, our bass player is prone to a bit of nakedness so you may even get some of that!"
