Moving around the stage with more energy than the Duracell Bunny, ¡Forward Russia! frontman Tom Woodhead looked certain to strangle himself at times as he twisted and entwined himself in his microphone lead. This human maypole was clearly the lead figure of the band and a photographer’s dream with a similar stage presence to Rob Harvey of The Music. The electro-rock sound pumped the crowd up, ready for the headline act - Wolfmother. | | Wolfmother |
Wolfmother have so far seemed to evade the knowledge of most of the people I know, and when invited they give a look of confusion – Wolfmother? – Who? Simply being described to me in the first place as having ‘a Black Sabbath sound’, I wasn’t exactly sure I what to expect from them myself. Clearly evident throughout were the musical influences which Andrew Stockdale (with trademark afro/perm), Chris Ross and Myles Heskett have all gathered to make their music. With sounds of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and The White Stripes all combined to formulate some ‘new classic rock’ - Stockdale’s vocals also sounding very Osbourne-esque at times - Wolfmother clearly wear their influences on their sleeves. All in All, a quality gig, with some new music being added to my already bursting Mp3 player. |
