And whilst there were certainly teen girls in abundance at the MEN, there was also proof that McFly are not just another band for girls to plaster their walls with. McFly took to the stage with recent single Please, Please; the screams bellowed around the arena and did not relent once. Mixing the set up, with tracks from all the bands releases, and previewing new material from the forthcoming Motion In The Ocean, you were never too far away from a huge single. | | McFly (pic: Shirlaine Forrest) |
Not a band to simply ply their wares and leave, the audience were treated to such unusual and varied delights as a Motley Crue-esque drum solo from Harry Judd, as he was suspended in the crowd on a motorized drum riser, a rousing rendition of the Ghostbusters theme tune (ironically released before most of the audience, and indeed the band were born) and a guest appearance by ex-Busted member Matt Willis. As far as guitar-based pop music goes, the standard on display here is unquestionably high. Far from a boy band with instruments, the work put into the harmonies on tracks like Star Girl and Room On The Third Floor. McFly’s show at the MEN Arena probably won’t serve to change the perceptions of those ‘in the know’. But those ‘in the crowd’, screaming along to every word and witnessing a great band putting on a great show, probably didn’t care. |
