The warm up sets come courtesy of a laid-back Sam Barrett and promising young collective, The Cassettes - a regular fixture at Children gigs, go down a storm with the unsettled, sweat drenched mob that surround me. A few warm up notes on the keyboard rounds up the final few people that are hovering around the venue into the main room, which has, by this time, turned into one giant mosh-pit. | | The Children |
If you've not heard of this band, you've either been away travelling in Outer Mongolia or you've had your head firmly buried in the musical sand. Without a doubt, The Children are simply the best thing to happen to the unsigned scene in a very long time. This sentiment has been echoed by some of the biggest names listed in their influences, the likes of Paul Weller, Clint Boon and John Lever are self-confessed fans. Their unmistakable sound is laced with whirling keyboards and sturdy sixties melodies, yet each tune's firmly stamped with their trademark fusion of youth and enthusiasm. The psychedelic sounds of bands such as The Doors and Cream can be heard filtering through the music, yet unlike many other young bands around at the moment, they can really carry it off and still sound original. |
