The Oldham Coliseum has teamed up with BBC writersroom and Tamasha Theatre Company for a new writing competition for writers based in the North of England and they’ll be down there, along with No Angels and I-Deal star Sunetra Sarker, on Monday 2 October to launch the whole thing. The winning script could get a BBC bursary of up to £1000, the professional guidance of a writing mentor and the chance to have their work produced for the stage. Two runners-up prizes of £500 each will also be awarded. The judges are looking for compelling and original stories about the British Asian experience, held together by great characters, strong dialogue and a wild spark of imagination. If that sums up your script and you feel you have the ability to entertain, inform and excite, then you’ll have until 8 January 2007 to produce and submit it. To prepare writers for creating their scripts, free "How to" workshops have been organised in October in eight places: Oldham, Bradford, Preston, Huddersfield, Manchester, Bolton, Burnley and Leeds. If you’re interested, the best thing is to get along to the Coliseum at 7.30pm on Monday, have a chat with some of the people down there and get involved!
