To look at the band in their entirety on stage is a spectacle in itself. Their sound is mainly ska-based with tongue-in-cheek, hilarious lyrics. One of the highlights was the song about scallies, to which the crowd erupted into a mix of hysterical laughter and rapturous applause - yet the music they’re set to is seriously good! | | D.I.L.E. |
If you’ve never heard them, don’t let this put you off, because whatever your musical taste, you can’t help being sucked into the D.I.L.E vortex of fun. It’s the type of gig where you go in not knowing what to expect and maybe even a little apprehensive, but after the first couple of songs, if you’re not dancing like a mad man, there’s something wrong. The madness continues with fan favourites, 24 Hours From Delph , 7ft Roo and My Favourite New Band. With every song, you could see more and more sweaty bodies gathering to fling themselves about in front of the stage, with the band looking on in amusement. A magnificent cover of the Camper Van Beethoven classic, Take The Skinheads Bowling, was the prelude to the one we’d all been waiting for, the resting place of Tupac Shakur and George Formby, where Saddam Hussain walks his two King Charles spaniels… yes, it’s the infamous Garstang. The song has had extensive airplay on local radio and generated such a cult following that even a major record label requested a copy - I can just imagine the men in suits pogoing about the office now! |
