Conference road closures

During the course of Labour’s conference in Manchester, a number of city centre roads will be closed or have restricted access. The restrictions will be in place up to and including Friday 29 September.

From 22 September, traffic restrictions will be introduced on:

  • Peter Street, including part of Watson Street, Windmill Street, Southmill Street (from Windmill Street to Peter Street) and Museum Street
  • Lower Mosley Street, including Bishopgate, Bale Street and Hall Street
  • St Peter’s Square, part of Mosley Street (from St Peter’s Square only as far as Princess Street) and Dickenson Street, St James Street and George Street
  • Part of Oxford Street (from St Peter’s Square, only as far as Portland Street)

There will also be restrictions on pedestrian access to Windmill Street, Museum Street and part of Southmill Street.

Diversions will be in place, but motorists planning to travel into the city centre during conference week are advised to plan their journeys and allow more time than usual.

Stop The War March

There will be further traffic disruption on Saturday 23 September as the Stop The War March takes place in the city centre. Protesters will assemble in Albert Square for 1pm and follow the following route:

  • Down Princess Street
  • Right at Lower Mosley Street
  • Right at Great Bridgwater Street
  • Right at Deansgate
  • Right at St. Mary’s Gate
  • Across to Market Street
  • Right into Cross Street

The rally will be held in Albert Square later in the afternoon.

Diversion signs will be in place to direct traffic. Shops and other businesses will be open as usual.
