 | | Sealed With A Loving Flick |
Well, but for one hideous bump in the road, the general idea seems to be one of laid-back deliciousness, in all its various forms. Ignoring the needless intro from The Unheard, the album flows in shades of handsome shade and light from Beats For Beginners’ brooding beauty Dracula to Dave Potts’ slow dancing Driving. Between that fabulous pair, other high spots include Jan Wolstenholme’s tongue-in-cheek sultriness, Chips (notable for the simply ace line ‘my heart is like gravy/poured over fish and chips’); Magic Arm’s subtle lullaby, Outdoor Games; John Stammers’ slow shuffle heartbreaker, Here Again; and Valerie’s dirty electronica-cum-playground chant, Korgatron. Indeed if it weren’t for the inclusion of the always irritating Gideon Conn, appearing here with That’s What’s So Sad About It, a song so annoying, you’d rather chew off your own ears than have to listen to it more than once, SWALF might well have been an essential album. As it is, just make sure you skip past track five every time you put it on and you’ll be drifting away on a sea of loving flicks for a long while yet. |
