Rik’s easy-going, languorous between song banter ensues that the Trevor Horn polished sheen that appears on the CD transfers smoothly to the live arena. For those – predominately couples - who have squeezed into the main area – if there is such a thing at the Roadhouse - the up-tempo numbers in their set get them swaying from every available chair and table. | | Captain (pic: Ged Camera) |
When Frontline kicks in with its engrossing guitar hooks, the thudding drum, and the harmonies vocals of Rik and Clare Zembek, the comparisons are so obvious, I have to struggle not to run home and play my Prefab Sprout albums instantly! The deliberately slower numbers temporarily cause the hands to stop clapping, but once normal musical service is restored, the moving and swaying re-commences. Noticeably though, the chattering classes at the bar haven’t, err, stopped chattering. Still, while it won’t be anything to challenge any musical boundaries, if you like melodic structures and catchy choruses, then Captain can happily fill an hour or two. |
