The Best Mancunian Music Event of 2004

To explain, this is the award for the best full day or multiple day event to take place within Manchester in 2004.

The nominees were:

  • Move festival (08/07 to 11/07)
  • D:Percussion (07/08)
  • In The City (17/09 to 21/09)

and the winner is...

It's always been a day of fun, but this year's D:Percussion was one whole heap of glorious fun. From the live sets from Grand Central's funky fine Fingathing and Canadian songstress Kate Rogers, the newly signed acoustic hero Stephen Fretwell, Twisted Nerve's top tinkler Aidan Smith, the thrilling Broke'N'English, and the soundscape wonders The Longcut to the DJ sets from Mr Scruff tipping in an afternoon of Northern Soul, the Kindergarten boys tearing up a storm, 1Xtra's DJ Sappo ripping out some urban cuts, and a twisted selection from Simian Mobile Disco, it was a day to remember.

As our reviewer Steven Long put it in his end of year choices, "you could almost be forgiven for thinking that you were at Glastonbury, Notting Hill Carnival or Ayia Napa. The sun beat down and the music was absolutely smashing. Long may it reign!"
