Eat your art out

Community centres across Coventry will explore issues of what Coventry means to them, their own identity and work towards developing an edible, sculptural jigsaw of art that represents the city.

Later this year, the Made in England project will encourage people to write a recipe – of the city!

Community centres across Coventry will explore issues of what Coventry means to them, their own identity and work towards developing an edible, sculptural jigsaw of art that represents the city.

The finished product will be large outdoor sculptural piece of art that is made from food. Food is also very heavily linked with identity, where a person comes from, traditions, rituals and hand-me-down recipes.

The food used will reflect the community that has made it.

The finished piece will be designed by Coventrians, reflecting the city’s past and present, for the people of Coventry not just to look at but to consume it.

  • If Coventry were a recipe, what ingredients would you need to make it?
  • What is special about this place they call home?
  • What inherent traditions have been passed down and reflect the city's identity in 2009?

The sculptures will be part of a wider city wide celebration of Coventry being a place of innovation and creativity. The celebration continues throughout the year and will culminate in a big event on 5 September 2009.

Want to know what Coventry will taste like? A set of recipe cards, one from each of the groups for people, will be made available for you to cook at home. Yum.
