BBC East Yorkshire & Lincs Sports Unsung Hero 2008

Dedicated football coach wins the 2008 award

The winner for 2008

The search for the BBC Sports Unsung Hero has been taking place across the United Kingdom. It will see winners named in 15 BBC Nations and Regions:

The winner for East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire is football coach Brian Manson. The judges were impressed by the way he has steered Theddlethorpe Junior Football club towards Charter Mark standard.

"When you get people from outside the family who care about you a lot, I appreciate that."

BBC Sport's Damian Johnson was on hand to present Brian with his award at a sports centre in nearby Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire live on BBC Look North.

Bursaries of up to £2,500, provided by award supporters Robinsons, are also available to winners of each regional award. This is to help them with their work in sport and the community.

Hull City star Dean Windass backed the awards as Yorkshire and Lincolnshire's regional ambassador.

He told BBC Look North: "When you get people from outside the family who care about you a lot and look after you, I appreciate that.

"Every kid has a dream and if you can help put five or 10% back into these kids who want to make a living out of sport then you are always putting something back."
