Romford storytelling festival - come along

The BBC RaW Family Storytelling Festival arrives in Romford on Saturday 26th July. Find out more here

Pitching itself in Raphael Park, the festival offers families and friends a weekend long feast of free, magical storytelling activities with a special guest star appearance from Sidney Sloane, presenter of CBeebies on Sunday 27th July.

RaW storytelling festivals

Bringing to life the characters from BBC RaW’s family activity pack, Max and Lara’s Amazing Travelling Space Circus, designed for less confident adult readers to share with their young children, RaW invites families of all ages to join Max, Lara and their wacky friends for two packed days of storytelling fun.

Surrounding the main stage where Max, Lara and a variety of performers will entertain the audience, the event will also feature:

  • live storytelling activities and story writing workshops
  • clowns, jugglers and costume characters
  • animation, puppetry shows and workshops
  • rhythm and rhyme sessions
  • lots of freebies including storybooks, activity packs and much more!

Local RaW partners will be running fun practical workshops throughout the weekend, so there’s plenty to see, do and join in for all the family from a family football challenge to building a family story.

And it’s FREE. The tent will be pitched at Raphael Park, Main Road, Romford, RM1 and will open from 10 – 5pm both days.

RaW is the BBC’s biggest ever adult literacy campaign: a media and entertainment led campaign to develop better reading and writing skills.

BBC RaW’s Family Storytelling Festival is in direct response to the over-whelming positive feedback the campaign’s family activity pack, Max and Lara’s Amazing Travelling Space Circus, has received. In 2007, over 26,000 people attended the RaW Storytelling Festival.

The festival is supporting the National Year of Reading and Bookstart.
