Mobile medical unit sets off

Croydon’s older residents will have medical services delivered to their doorstep.

The POP (Partnerships for Older People) bus will bring services for older people direct to the heart of the community say supporters.

The bus is a culmination of two years of campaigning by vulnerable residents in the borough and, following a trial period with a temporary bus, campaigners have now taken delivery of the £100,000 state of the art bus.

"It’s a fantastic service for older people in the borough"

Hannah Miller, Croydon council

In just under a year with the previous bus, some three thousand older people took advantage of the services on offer.

Hannah Miller is the Director of Adult Social Services for Croydon Council. She officially accepted the bus on behalf of OPEN – Older People’s Network.

“It’s a fantastic service for older people in the borough. It’s going to bring advice, information, blood pressure test, hearing test and information on all the fantastic things we do for older people. There’ll also be a host of support for carers”, explains Hannah

it will be a god send

The bus which will be touring the borough will be staffed by a team of experts.

Cabinet member for health and adult social care, Margaret Mead, said: “We are delighted to be taking delivery of a new bus which has been purpose built for our needs, and will continue to provide our residents with the help and support they need when they need it”.
