Barking gets set for the Olympics

There’s been a lot of talk about how East London will benefit from the Olympics, but do you actually know what it will mean for you and your borough?

Well a new Olympic road show is aiming to make sure people know as much as possible about the games and the opportunities 2012 will bring, and on Saturday 26th January it’s coming to Barking town centre.

It’s just a months until the capital takes over from Beijing as the Olympic host city, and the “Get set London road show” is part of the preparations to ensure we're all ready.

There'll be information about how local businesses can find out how they can get involved in contracts for the games.

You'll also be able to find out about new sports facilities planned in the borough.

And for young Olympic hopefuls there'll be information about how to get funding to help with their training.

Lord Sebastian Coe who is Chairman of the London 2012 Organising Committee, explained that:

“we want London 2012 to be ‘Everyone’s Games’, with a wide range of opportunities for Londoners to get involved, not just in the summer of 2012, but starting now.

Many of these opportunities already exist, and more will follow – and we are bringing to Get Set London road show to every London borough to make sure residents are aware of the many ways they can join in and be part of 2012.”

If you've got any thoughts about the Olympics and how they'll affect you or the borough I'd love to hear from you. Or perhaps you're a young athlete from the area who’s working towards taking part? Drop me an email at lebo.diseko@bbc.co.uk

You can catch the road show at Vicarage Fields shopping centre between 10 am and 6 pm on Saturday January 26th.
