The British Boxing Board of ControlThe BBBC were founded in 1929 and are responsible for licensing professional boxers in Britain. Today there are around 2,000 pro fighters with around 600 to 700 currently active. Most of these fighters are semi-professional. The organisation's rules of governing the licensing of boxers are to minimise risk to the boxers, ensure boxers are properly fit and to ensure that the two boxers are evenly matched. Their responsibilities include sanctioning bouts as championship title fights, nominating the referee and judges, setting up the rules of the organisation, to produce world rankings and to present the championship belt or trophy to the winner. The WBA (World Boxing Association) is the oldest organisation and was founded in 1921, formerly the NBA. The WBC (World Boxing Council) was founded in 1963, the IBF (International Boxing Federation) founded in 1983 and the WBO (World Boxing Organisation) founded in 1988.
