Losing the respect of a tight-knit community or suffering at the hands of a violent and abusive husband?

That is the startling choice facing some of the 10,000 or so women who come to the UK from Asia every year to be with their British born husbands.

Each year, approximately 600 women try to escape from such arranged marriages that have turned violent.

Many of these women see suicide as the only way out of their dilemma but that doesn’t have to be the case.

There are support groups they can turn to who can help the women find a way of their situation, some of which can be found below.
