After much discussion the winning photo of the best 'journey with a view' around the capital has been chosen. | "I was impressed by the range and quality of the photographs. Our winning photo has lots of great elements that made it stand out..." | | Tamsin Dillon, Transport for London |
Over the past couple of months we, in conjunction with www.tfl.gov.uk, have been asking for your photos of wherever your journey around London takes you. We wanted your photos from London's buses, tubes, DLR, trams, waterways or even by foot. The winning photograph, selected jointly by Transport for London's Tamsin Dillon, curator of London Underground’s Platform for Art initiative and BBC London 94.9 presenter JoAnne Good, was sent in by Benedict Hilliard from Greenwich. | | The winning photo by Benedict Hilliard. |
The photo was taken in Mudchute park, Isle of Dogs and our judges describe it as a 'sheeps eye view of an urban skyline' and merit its wonderful perspective of a rural scene looking towards famous urban development. Tamsin Dillon said: "I was impressed by the range and quality of the photographs. Our winning photo has lots of great elements that made it stand out: the well known landmark of canary wharf in the background is a great contrast with a seemingly rural setting and the sheep seems to be making its own comment in its sideways glance giving the image a great comic edge." The winner, Benedict Hillard, said, "I quite often walk from Greenwich to Canary Wharf and I love the change of architecture and environment along the way, there is always something I haven't noticed before. "The thing I like about the picture is the contrast - seemingly rural with a sheep in the foreground but obviously right in the city with Canary Wharf in the background. "I have lived in a lot of big cities around the world and I think that London is the most diverse and the most beautiful, simply there is something for everyone" | | The runner-up by Suzie Poulton. |
Benedict, 45, wins a £100 Oyster Card and has been involved with photography since a teenager. Runner-upThe photo chosen as the runner-up in our competition was from Tate Modern and of the Millennium Bridge sent in by Suzie Poulton. The judges describe it as "a fabulous black and white shot from Tate Modern from a modern perspective."
Other photos the judges particularly liked were, on the N55 night bus from Marta Marino (photo 3), on the No.73 bus at Marble Arch by Chris Moxey (photo 17), in Old Street by Eric Hands (photo 21) and of St.Paul's Cathedral and the Millennium Bridge by Iva Petrovic (photo 25).
