Stop Shopping is an afternoon of screenings, discussion, and performance featuring artists and anti-shoppers who question and interrupt the usual patterns of consumerism.

Reverend Billy (of the Church of Stop Shopping) has gained an international following by leading his congregation and a gospel choir into Starbucks for an impromptu sermon on the evils of the transnational bean and hormone-injected milk. Whirl-Marts silent trolley processions mesmerize shoppers struggling with their own overloaded shopping trolleys. My Dads Strip Club is an absurdist look at subliminal messages spelled out in supermarket receipts. The projects examine the rituals of consumerism, and elevate the act of just browsing to the point of ecstatic fervour.  | | Window display infiltration |
The Vacuum Cleaner and co stage their absurdist, peaceful protests by scrubbing the filth from icons and sites of corporate greed and images of self-hate armed only with a pair of marigold gloves and feather duster. Following the screening, the stop shoppers will take their act to the streets, staging interventions and performances in various locations around Liverpool. Stop Shopping are Ange Taggart, William Talen AKA Rev Billy, and Andrew Lynn; also participating are Conglomco (USA), The Vacuum Cleaner (UK), Richard Dedomenici (UK), Jon Burgerman (UK) & How and Why (USA).
