Frank's FlagWith Liverpool preparing to take on Chelsea in the first leg of the Champion’s League semi-final, one Liverpool fan has been expressing his support for the team in a big way. A familiar site on the Kop at Anfield, Frank Graceffa’s huge flag in support of Liverpool F.C. can easily be draped across two semi-detached houses. “Ironing it takes some doing” laughs Frank. Help playing audio/video The story of the flag dates back to the 1984 European Cup Final when Frank noticed the incredible banners displayed by Italian fans. “I thought I’d love to have something like that for our club” says Frank. Eight years ago, Frank started making the great flag with just a badge in the center at first, and as more materials became available, the project grew, as did the cost of making it. “It’s a lot of money!” says Frank.
Quietly confidentThe flag features Liverpool’s club crest in the middle with five European stars underneath. Around that are the domestic trophies won by Liverpool F.C. and European trophies across the top. Even the managers that led Liverpool to their victories are represented on the flag. “Shankly, Paisley, they’re all on there” Frank notes. Frank remains quietly confident about the semi-finals against Chelsea. “The biggest problem is finding the yellow material to add a sixth star! We don’t need to be given flags to wave, we do it anyway, because that’s who we are.” last updated: 22/04/2008 at 15:38 SEE ALSOYou are in: Liverpool > Features > Latest Features > Frank's Flag |
