Fridge Poets

By Steve Coleman
Young people across Merseyside improved their writing skills with a novel poetry project, as part of BBC RaW.

BBC RaW aims to increase people’s reading and writing skills in engaging ways. We took the simple idea of the fridge magnet word games and turned them into a computer generated kitchen canvas.

Our virtual fridge and a few dozen cyber magnets went out on the road on the BBC Bus to see what creativity bytes when you mess about with a white domestic appliance (only ours in blue!)

Young people from Liverpool, Knowsley, Wirral and St Helens wrote a range of poems from limericks to lullabies.

RaW is the BBC’s biggest ever campaign that aims to help adults across the UK read and write better.
