Now achieving notable success as an MC, BBC Introducing presents Dru T. The road has been long for this young MC. Early childhood experiences such as the unfortunate break-up of his parents made a deep impression. When he started high school, Dru admits he fell in with the wrong crowd, which landed him in serious trouble. With his troubles taking over his adolescent years, Dru T was excluded from school and the future looked bleak. Instead of letting these problems take over, he used his time wisely while waiting to get back into education. He took up a hobby, which unknown to him, would bring him future career prospects. Help playing audio/video This hobby was rap music. He started listening to artists such as 2Pac and was able to relate to their poetic style. Fully immersed in the the harsh reality of life, Dru would write lyrics about his experiences. When he finally re-entered education, he met a variety of students from various ethnic backgrounds. It was a culture shock for him and a fantastic learning experience. He met MC's who educated him about their culture. It was going well until he was foolishly excluded from school again. ![]() From mistakes to triumph: Dru T Now on his last chance, his mother moved him to a new area and he was placed in a new school. Dru realised there was no more room for error. At the same time, he decided to take his music further whilst studying for his GCSEs. He gave himself the alias of DRU T which he defines as "Da Realest Underground Talent". He finished his education and pursued his musical dreams. Soon local radio stations were spinning his tracks and he was getting regular airplay and a growing fanbase. Dru now has fans all over the world from Liverpool, America, Australia and New Zealand to Hong Kong! He has had over 10,000 song plays and gets downloads ranging from 100-500 a month.
Dru T cites his biggest achievement as reaching the Top Ten Battle MCs Worldwide at Gold Mic where he stayed in the top ten for over 4 months! He was soon noticed by a local urban collective called Urbeatz who signed up the burgeoning talent. He has now performed alongside some of the UK's most known rappers such as Skinnyman and MudFam at Liverpool's Carling Academy, and has taught children in schools about "Positive Rap". So what's next for Dru T?"I have learnt a lot" he says "I've made mistakes and had triumphs. The music industry is not easy and you must put hard work into the music." At only 17 years of age and a promising solo artist, Dru-T now strives for his wildest dreams.
