You may be familiar with the name of Alfred, Lord Tennyson, you may even know some of his famous quotes. 'It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all' for example. But what about the man, his life and his times. Did you know for example that in Tennyson's heyday he was regarded with the same adulation as that of a modern day rock star and his work continued to be inspired by Lincolnshire long after he had moved away from the county. He mixed with the great and good of his day and his poem 'In Memoriam' was a favourite of Queen Victoria. Ulysses was said to be John F Kennedy's favourite poem, which was even recited on the final ever episode of Frasier in 2004 when the pompous psychiatrist Frasier Crane announced his goodbyes by reciting the poem to a radio audience. On 6th October, 1892 Tennyson died of gout with his wife and son by his side.
