But when the Fairy Dell at Skegness closed down more than a year ago because of water quality problems there was outrage both in the town and from tourists further afield. East Lindsey District Council had originally planned to completely replace the facility with a modern "mutli-activity" pool, but a campaign to keep the Fairy Dell as close to its traditional look as possible was mounted and the authority backed down. Six options were put forward to the public and almost 900 people voted for their favourite proposal. The result, unveiled ahead of the May bank holiday weekend, is a new look which incorporates the distinctive fountain of the original but also a number of new features as well. It's cost around £250,000 and includes a new water quality control station which means it has similar water standards to a swimming pool. "The redevelopment of this paddling pool and fountain was clearly something close to the hearts of those living in not only Skegness, but also people living much further afield. This was evident from the response to our consultation exercise," the leader of East Lindsey District Council Councillor Jeremy Webb said. An official opening ceremony for the new Fairy Dell will take place on June 8th. last updated: 16/05/2008 at 15:51 Have Your SayHave you got fond memories of Fairy Dell?
