PICTURES FROM THE BALL

After a drizzly morning on Friday the skies cleared ready for the University of Leicester's Summer Ball 2004.

The event which had a star-studded line up started at 8pm and ended at 6am on Saturday morning - could you last the distance?.

The students, most of whom had graduated during the preceding week, were greeted by the beautiful sounds of a string quartet on arrival.

However most seemed eager to hurry past this elegance in order to get their complimentary drink to start the evening's festivities.

Sparkling fireworks brightened the night sky with a bang and added to the excitement of seeing everyone 'glammed' up after three years of jeans and trainers at the student union.

The entertainment was headed by Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra who soon got everyone tapping their feet or shaking their booty!

Girls Aloud, who arrived an hour late and minus one member, met a restless crowd but managed to win them over with a number of tracks both old and new.

The fantastic line-up also included Killa Kella and his amazing human beat-box skills which got many a tipsy student having a go - amazing how a few vodka and cokes makes people (well me) think they have great talents that did not exist at the beginning of a night!

Nearing the end of the evening many students headed outside for a well earned breather and to get the low-down on fellow graduates' plans for the coming year.

So for those who made it to the 'survivors photo' at 6am, it was tears at dawn as each said their farewells and ended their last University of Leicester night out - just in time to catch the start of breakfast at the hotel!
