A postwoman from Queniborough has swapped her post bag for a sleeping bag by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of a cancer charity.

Ann McKay, 57, set off for Tanzania on 11 April and took seven days to complete the climb of one of the largest mountains in the world.

Ann embarked on the mission in aid of the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity. She says she wants to give something back. The charity cared for her father when he suffered from cancer in 2000.

Ann sets off for Mount Kilimanjaro on 11 April.

She spent a night in her back gardens during snowy weather and found it good preparations for her trek.

"I bought a new sleeping bag because the weather on Kilimanjaro can be -20°C at night and so I thought when better to try it out than the bad weather we have had recently," says Ann.

A grandmother of four, Ann is also a keen walker and enjoys riding her ponies. She says she loves the outdoor life and enjoys a challenge.

You can follow Ann's trip to Mount Kilimanjaro here on BBC Leicester. We will feature her pictures and a video diary from the trip.
