Audio and Video links on this page require Realplayer Leicester Tigers' captain Martin Corry and lock Ben Kay were on their way back to Leicester after England training in Bath on Saturday 21 July 2007 when their car broke down because of the floodwater. Kay was driving, so Corry climbed out of the window and pushed Ben out of the worst of the water. ![]() Severe flooding in Gloucestershire The floodwaters kept rising and other cars broke down in the same way, so Corry and Kay took it in turns to wade into the water, push the cars out, and carry the people to safety. Corry says: "The waters kept on going and more and more cars conked out, more people were stranded, and all we could do then was try and get them into the pub and hope they might buy us a pint or two." The two Tigers also lent the stranded villagers some of their training kit to keep warm. Corry isn't keen to take too much credit for their actions though: "Because we'd been away in camp for a couple of weeks we had a boot full of kit, half of it was clean, so we were able to dish out that. "Especially in a village everyone was coming out to help and we were just happy to do our little bit as well." last updated: 25/07/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Leicester > Sport > Leicester Tigers > Tigers in the floodwater |
