Read on to find out more about the funny man as we put him in the hot seat. In 2006 Mark Watson was awarded the inaugural if.comeddies Panel Prize at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
This was the year in which Mark took three shows to the festival: an hour-length stand-up act; a 36-hour non-stop stand-up performance entitled Mark Watson’s Seemingly Impossible 36-Hour Circuit of the World; Mark Watson and His Audience Write a Novel, in which he wrote his second novel with contributions from the audience. This Year, Mark returns with a brand new show "Can I briefly talk to you about the point of life?" Some of you meet the star of "Mock the Week" in the Edinburgh Preview at Firebug on Sunday 01 July. Introduce yourself!Hello. I am Mark Watson, the comedian and author. I live in London with my wife. We have a cat and have just taken on a kitten. I'm just coming to the end of a national tour and am keeping myself busy with a little project to try to save the world. Quietly. Have you performed in Leicester much before?I have, quite a few times. I was at the Peepul Centre on my tour earlier in the year and had a great time. Also, I did my first ever hour-long performance in Leicester, in a bar that I can't remember the name of. ![]() What's the idea behind this year's Edinburgh Show? It's based around a sort of average day in my life. The idea of the show is to find some sort of meaning in life, when so many things seem a bit trivial and pointless. But it's funny. Hopefully. Do you ever get tired pursuing so many different projects (TV, Radio, 24 hour shows etc!)?The main problem is finding the time, really. The hard thing isn't actually doing all the projects but organising my life so I don't become a lunatic. I like having lots of things on though; I get very frustrated waiting around for people to get back to me. Without comedy you would be...?Constantly moaning about things in real life, instead of on stage. Best place to see comedy?Melbourne Comedy Festival, if you can get out there. In the UK, the Glee Club in Birmingham is very nice. Which comedians/comic acts would you recommend?Tim Key. He's a comic poet. His act leaves some people baffled but I think it's very funny. last updated: 04/07/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Leicester > Entertainment > Theatre and Arts > Features > Mark Watson Q&A |
