There's no place like home

Kasabian have international fame, they're friends with Noel Gallagher and now their album, 'Empire', has gone to number one. And yet they still found time to come back to Leicester to meet their fans. Listen to the interview here...

On 04 September 2006, a week after 'Empire' topped the charts, 400 Kasabian fans were queuing up inside and outside of HMV Leicester.

The band has a very loyal fan base in the city, and some fans had arrived at HMV at 9am to ensure they wouldn't miss out on meeting the lads.

Kasabian were coming back to the city for just one night to sign copies of their album and play a secret gig.

Listen to BBC Radio Leicester's Bridget Blair interview with lead singer, Tom Meighan, and look at the photos of the album signing...

To get into the signing you needed a wristband, which HMV were giving out throughout the day.

The first 150 people also got tickets to the secret gig, which turned out to be at Leicester University.

Tom looks quizzical...
Tom takes pouting to a new level

Kasabian have played at arenas that hold 9,000 people, but although this gig was a lot smaller than most, Tom says there's something special about coming home:

"Every gig I love playing, but this especially – it's in Leicester and all those people queued up overnight for us – it blows your mind."

Although the band spend a lot of time in London now, they are still based in Leicester.

Tom thinks there are some things about the city that you just couldn't get anywhere else:

“The cheese, the crisps, the pies – the pork pies – from Melton Mowbray. It's where we live and I think it’s just peace of mind for us."
