Amitabh Bachchan, the legendary Bollywood actor came to Leicester to receive an honorary degree of Doctorate of Arts in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the film industry in India.

The degree from De Montfort University captured his fans attention across the city.

Thousands of his fans gathered to meet him during his visit to the Golden Mile. Fans of all ages came to get a glimpse of the Bollywood icon.

He was then escorted to a question and answer session at the Walkers Stadium with all proceeds going to charity.

Amitabh Bachchan is said to be the most popular Indian actor ever. His film career spans over over five decades with his first feature film in 1969.

The sixty-four year old is known for his trademark deep voice, his intense eye and tall, brooding persona. He is still making films and it as popular as ever in his native country, India.

Amitach Bachchan addressed all his fans: "Thank you for your love, thank you for your affection. I feel very privileged to be here today."
