The family of a Hinckley teenager who was killed in a terrorist attack has launched a new initiative to raise awareness of the tragedy. Relatives of Matthew Fulham are hoping to release hundreds of balloons on the first anniversary of the tragedy. It is hoped the event will be held in the town on 23 July. Matthew died the day before his 18th birthday in a terrorist attack at the Egyptian holiday resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. He was on holiday with his parents Pete and Julie, aged 49 and 48, and their sons Ashley and Thomas, aged 17 and 14, and 12-year-old daughter Devan. Matthew was killed at the Ghazala Gardens hotel, which was destroyed by a car bomb. The Matthew Fulham Foundation, formerly known as the Matthew Fulham Memorial Trust, was set up as as a tribute to him. It also aims to collect donations to help the families of other victims of the attack, by contributing to costs such as funeral expenses. The foundation is also using its funds to help young musicians, because Matthew was a keen trombone player. To buy a balloon for the race send a cheque for £1 (payable to the Matthew Fulham Memorial Trust) to PO Box 8251, Hinckley, Leicestershire LE10 9AL. There is a £25 prize for the balloon that travels the furthest in the time between the release and 23 August. |
