Martin Ballard's story

Martin has been a regular face and voice at BBC Radio Leicester for more years than he acres to remember. He is also well known for wearing women's clothing - but only as a dame in Panto every year! Martin's story is about family and how your life can change in just one moment.

Monica Winfield's story

Monica Winfield
Monica Winfield

Monica was only 17-years-old when she joined BBC Radio Leicester. Her first job was strictly secretarial and it was many years before her dulcet tones were heard on air. Now she presents our weekend breakfast show from 6-9am. Monica knew she wanted to tell a happy story - and so she decided to share an unusual birthday celebration.

Kay Walker's story

Gina Bolton
Gina Bolton

Kay is BBC Radio Leicester's newsreader for the Carribean Connexion and Into Africa programmes. She loves her family, hammocks, sunshine and having friends over for meals but hates cockroaches, boiled ockra and other people doing her washing up.
She grew up in the West Indies and this story particularly sticks in her mind for obvious reasons....

Gina Bolton's story

Gina Bolton is BBC Radio Leicester's early morning newsreader. Her story is about her first time on air. Gina says: "I decided to tell this story because people always ask what it was like to first go on air; whether I get nervous and that kind of thing. I hope this gives an idea of what I went through 11 years ago when I first started".

Tim Forrest's story

Tim Forrest
Tim Forrest

Tim has worked at BBC Radio Leicester for almost three years. Doing everything from radiocar reporting to forgetting to make the tea. But his life outside the radio station is far less exciting. Luckily he has people around him who give him stuff to talk about. This tale is about one of those very important people.....

Bridget Blair's story

Bridget Blair
Bridget Blair

Bridget has worked for the BBC on and off since leaving university. She is also a qualified librarian and has worked on cruise ships, going around the world and being paid for it. The mum-of-three's hobbies are going to music gigs and more gigs......oh and drinking red wine! Bridget's story was inspired by looking through old photographs..

Kate Squire's story

Kate Squire
Kate Squire

Kate, who is the managing editor of BBC Radio Leicester has worked for the corporation for 21 years in roles ranging from reporter to TV sports presenter. The single mum-of-three says her life is a juggling act between holding down a full-time job and taking care of her kids. Kate says: "I had a very happy childhood and was always made to feel I could do anything I set my mind to….the world was at my feet ! But it's not all been plain sailing by any means and sometimes I think you only test relationships you know are strong enough to cope with them. My roots and childhood are hugely important to me even though I've rebelled against them and the older I get with my children the more I'm aware of time passing and what's important".
