Monica was only 17-years-old when she joined BBC Radio Leicester. Her first job was strictly secretarial and it was many years before her dulcet tones were heard on air. Now she presents our weekend breakfast show from 6-9am. Monica knew she wanted to tell a happy story - and so she decided to share an unusual birthday celebration. Kay is BBC Radio Leicester's newsreader for the Carribean Connexion and Into Africa programmes. She loves her family, hammocks, sunshine and having friends over for meals but hates cockroaches, boiled ockra and other people doing her washing up. She grew up in the West Indies and this story particularly sticks in her mind for obvious reasons.... Gina Bolton's story Gina Bolton is BBC Radio Leicester's early morning newsreader. Her story is about her first time on air. Gina says: "I decided to tell this story because people always ask what it was like to first go on air; whether I get nervous and that kind of thing. Bridget has worked for the BBC on and off since leaving university. She is also a qualified librarian and has worked on cruise ships, going around the world and being paid for it. The mum-of-three's hobbies are going to music gigs and more gigs......oh and drinking red wine! Bridget's story was inspired by looking through old photographs.. Kate, who is the managing editor of BBC Radio Leicester has worked for the corporation for 21 years in roles ranging from reporter to TV sports presenter. The single mum-of-three says her life is a juggling act between holding down a full-time job and taking care of her kids. Kate says: "I had a very happy childhood and was always made to feel I could do anything I set my mind to….the world was at my feet ! But it's not all been plain sailing by any means and sometimes I think you only test relationships you know are strong enough to cope with them. My roots and childhood are hugely important to me even though I've rebelled against them and the older I get with my children the more I'm aware of time passing and what's important". |
