His show business name was inspired by the composer of the 19th Century opera Hansel And Gretel. The singer revealed his plans during an exclusive chat with BBC Radio Leicester presenters Tony Wadsworth and Julie Mayer. The couple broadcast a special show from the Great Glen home of Engelbert and his wife of more than 40 years, Pat. The 69-year-old singer, who has sold about 150 million records, says he is starting to wind down his career. Engelbert said: "I do 140 concerts around the world each year so I lead quite a hectic life. "So in 2006 I am only doing 70 gigs, and the year after that about 50. "I don't think I can totally give up because show business is in my blood".
