FACTS

The very first Sport Relief in July 2002 brought the world of sport together under one banner for the first time, raising a truly impressive £14.4 million.

Some of sport's biggest names joined forces with the country's main sporting bodies to create a campaign that even saw the Prime Minister Tony Blair partner tennis legend Pat Cash at the Stella Artois Tennis Tournament!

As well as attracting the stars, Sport Relief '02 ignited the public's interest too, in spectacular fashion, with schools, offices, sports clubs and families all over the country playing almost every conceivable sport to raise money.

Sport Relief '04 is giving you the chance to be part of the biggest mile event in history and help change the world.

The Mile
At venues all over the UK you will be able to Go The Extra Mile on Sport Relief Saturday, July 10th, in whatever way you want, to raise as much money as you can.

In Leicestershire and Rutland there are three places you can take part: Walkers Stadium, Leicester; Loughborough University Athletics Track; and Pingles Stadium Athletics Track in Nuneaton. (You can use these links for times, addresses maps, to register, and for much more.)

You can try and do the Mile in the fastest time you can, do it with your mates, dress up or do it backwards. After registering, you will be given a red sock to wear during the race. When you complete the course, you get the second sock to complete your pair.

And whatever way you do it, the money you raise will help change the lives of people who really need our help, both here in the UK and in some of the poorest countries around the world.

I did it my way
As well as taking part in the massive mile events on July 10th you can also go the extra mile for Sport Relief '04 through any sport that takes your fancy.

Pub Quizzes
And if you are more used to propping up the bar than jumping over it, you can take part in a BBC Local Radio Pub Quiz to raise money for the same cause. Listen out for information on BBC Radio Leicester on 104.9FM for details. The event should be taking place on Tuesday 6 July, or check the official Sport Relief website from Monday 21 June for more details.
