Although Pakistan as a whole benefited hugely from this scheme it resulted in massive upheaval for Mirpur itself. The two major towns of Mirpur (pictured here) and Dudial, and the valleys in which they lay were flooded, and over 100,000 people lost their homes, their land and their livelihoods.
