Kinch

...describe themselves as indie-funk-blues but with a definite jazz influence!

Matty Ullah - Guitar/Vocals
Dan White - Saxophone
Little Richard Kelley - Bass
Pete Wheeldon - Drums/Vocals
BEEN GOING SINCE: January 2005
BIOGRAPHY: Kinch hooked up musically in January 2005 when long-time friends Chris Chadwick, Pete Wheeldon and Matthew Ullah started jamming after school, playing their own jazz versions of Jimi Hendrix songs. After recording an album as a trio, they were joined by Richard Kelley on bass and started writing their own material under the name 'Out Of The Norm'.
In March 2005, the band entered and won a battle of the bands competition for young Leeds bands. After this initial success, they started gigging regularly at local venues and entered the prestigious Musical Futures 'Road to Rouen' competition, open to bands throughout Yorkshire. Over the course of the heats and the final, the boys beat 39 other bands to win an all-expenses-paid five-day trip to play a music festival and nightclub venues in France and give those garlic-loving crowds a taste of the band's own indie-funk-blues gumbo.
Virtuoso saxophonist Dan White, whose sporadic appearances with the band had always gone down a storm, became a permanent member in July 2005, cementing the band's sound.
In the 18 months following their debut in September 2005, the band went from strength-to-strength, notching up over 50 gigs and winning over fans from Nottingham to Northumberland. But this was only the beginning. In January 2007, the band renamed itself Kinch and set its sights on securing world peace and a record deal....and the rest, as they say, is history to be written…
STYLE OF MUSIC: Indie-Funk-Blues
INFLUENCES: Jimi Hendrix, Ray Charles, Pink Floyd, Maroon 5, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Average White Band, Breakestra, Parliament/Funkadelic, Oscar Peterson, Charlie Parker, Mark King, Jaco Pastorius, Joe Pass, Miles Davis and many more…
FAVOURITE SONG: "St Louis Blues" sung by Peter Cincotti. It just rules, man.
BEST MOMENT SO FAR: All the best moments are still to come!
OTHER INFO: We've just got a new name, a new manager, a new website and some new recordings. 2007 is the Year of the Kinch! Come and see us!
