On a very muddy pitch, Garforth set out to extend their unbeaten run to six despite having a number of players missing from the squad. The first half saw Garforth camped in the oppositions half but unable to force a breakthrough. Hazza and Joseph C both had chances but were unable to take them and from a free kick, Jack was unlucky to see a thunderous effort come back of the post and away to safety. Just before half time though, Villa won a corner after some sterling work by George on the wing. Hazza took the kick which the keeper could only parry over his head and into his own net. Half time: Garforth 1 St Josephs 0 The second half started in much the same way. Matty had come out of goal without a shot to save and had replaced George on the wing. He was taking a lot of the play to St Joseph's but once again that final touch could not be found. Meanwhile St Joseph's were also creating chances and it was left to the strong tackling of Joe B, Jack and Aidey to keep the ball from the Garfoth goal. After one such attack, Joseph C picked the ball up in his own half and ran at the St Josephs defence, skipping past four defenders before putting the ball in the net from the tightest of angles. One to savour. The pressure continued after that and both Matty and Hazza were unlucky not to add to the score. However, before the end, Joseph C again picked up the ball just outside the St Joseph's area and steadied himself before drilling a crisp shot into the back of the net. A solid team performance was rewarded with three valuable points. Final score: Garforth Villa 3-0 St Joseph's Team: George, Joe B, Jack, Aidy, Matty,Hazza, Joseph C MoM: Joe B |
