Junior Football match reports

Bramley Phoenix 2 - 1 Gildersome Spurs

Report sent in by Steve Mohun
Garforth Junior League, U9s Division A, Sunday 10 December 2006.

Despite missing half of their first team, Gildersome Spurs Under 9s competed well against third in the table Bramley on a muddy pitch. Bramley took a first half lead when the otherwise excellent Joe in goal for Spurs let a speculative short squeeze under his body. But Peter, in his first game for the first team, found himself unmarked in the Bramley box minutes later and coolly slotted home the equaliser.

In the second half the home team pressed for a winner that did not look like it would come until a momentary lapse from the well drilled Gildersome defence allowed an unmarked Bramley player at the back post to put his team ahead. Spurs battled for a second equaliser and when Jonathan prodded home a shot in the final minute they thought they had secured a draw, but the referee judged that the ball had gone out of play moments before.

In the second game, Spurs B team, missing four regulars, struggled to contain a rampant Bramley, and the away side rarely threatened to answer the two well-taken goals from the home team. The game finished Bramley 2 - 0 Gildersome.
